GRANDMOTHER Lily Flynn made the headlines for her globe-trotting adventures. Mrs Flynn, of Elizabeth Street, Prestwich, travelled to Australia on her own for a three month stay, when just ten years previously she was confined to a wheelchair and thought she would never walk again.

A QUILTMAKER had things all sewn up when she retired from work after 25 years in the job. Mrs Ethel Charnley, of Gardner Road, Prestwich, worked at T. Slater Quilts where she started off making eiderdowns and finished as forelady.

SEDGLEY Park Playgroup members donned bonnets and baby clothes to take part in a sponsored Easter pram parade. Mums taking part in the event raised £88 for the "Year of the Child".

RIBBLE Rovers, who were undefeated for two seasons, finished top of the North Bury Junior League and won the League Cup and Knock-out Cup. The team had scored 516 goals, with only six against, in the seasons 77-78 and 78-79.

FOLLOWING a visit to Whitefield's Hillock Estate, the Minister for Sport Mr Denis Howell, stated that developers of new housing estates should also provide sports and recreation facilities. He said that otherwise, they were "building houses with social problems built in".
