THE LET (April 10) had a letter from Councillor Don Rishton, of the "beacon" council of Blackburn with Darwen within which, he stated that postal ballots (back in the 1980s) were forced onto the unions by Margaret Thatcher.
The reason was obvious to the "moderate" members of trade unions! No more intimidation at supposedly mass meetings under which, the left-wing forced their minority views on union members too frightened to attend a rally.
