'IN memory of my right boob!' -- that is the slogan one woman plans to wear on her back while taking part in Cancer Research UK's Race for Life next month.

For Morag Salkeld, it marks the time she had part of her breast removed after being diagnosed with cancer about three years ago following a routine mammography examination.

Now she plans to join other women on the track at Preston Sports Arena, Tom Benson Way, for the 5km Race for Life, on Sunday, May 23, which is supported by the Citizen.

This will be the fourth time Morag, 52, has participated in the Tesco-sponsored event which, this year, aims to raise £95,000 for research into cancers that affect women.

"The Race for Life is such a great event," said Morag, whose daughter Alexandra, 13, will also be taking part. "It is so important to raise money for research into cancer and every bit helps."

Last week Morag, of Cherrywood, Preston, was given the all clear by doctors following a series of radio therapy treatment although doctors will monitor her progress for the rest of her life.

The mother-of-two, who volunteers for an animal charity and at her daughter's former school, Whitefield Primary, in Penwortham, said: "When I was diagnosed I was more concerned for my children and how they'd cope if it came to the worse.

"Now, thinking of my situation, I think 'there's always someone worse than you'.

"Cancer is a terrible thing and I'm one of the lucky ones."

Women of all ages and fitness levels can enter Race for Life with a view to raising at least £100 for the good cause.

As well as sponsors participants can encourage people to tick the 'Gift Aid' box on the form which allows the charity to claim an extra 28 pence for every pound raised from the Government.
