BROOKHOUSE Primary School pupils in Blackburn transformed waste land in Troy Street into a green oasis with trees, shrubs and flowers.
They had already won the best primary school category in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph Grimewatch Awards 1993 for a litter-picking project.
Elsewhere, an arm wrestling competition got under way at the Crown Hotel in Redearth Road Darwen.
