COLNE are just two points away from being North West Counties Division Two champions -- and victory at Leek CSOB tomorrow will give them the crown.

Even if they don't get it, their incredible run of form has left them another five games in which to overtake leaders Maine Road, who have completed their campaign.

And player-chairman James Webster admitted that, although disappointing at the time, their FA Vase semi-final exit could be the best thing that's happened to them.

"Gary Rishton said he thinks getting knocked out helped us in the league because we've won 10 out of the last 11 games," said Webster, who scored in Colne's 4-1 win over Cheadle Town on Wednesday night.

"To have such a good run at this stage of the season and the way in which we've had to play the games is fantastic."

But even if Nigel Coates' side win the title tomorrow, Webster admits their season is far from over.

"We've got six games left and Nigel has set us a target to win them all and get 100 goals for the season," he said.

"It won't be easy tomorrow because Leek aren't a bad side at home. We've got some other tricky games still to play too but we're always capable of scoring goals."

And Webster paid tribute to leading scorer Carl Haworth, who has already netted 45 league and cup goals this season.

"Carl's got a fantastic record this season," he said.

"He's given us that bit of extra something up front that we've been lacking in recent seasons and he's desperate to get to 50 goals.

"Plus Scott Gizon and Ian Simpson have chipped in with 20-odd goals each."

Gizon is one of three key players missing tomorrow, along with Jason Heffernan and Craig Whittaker but Webster added: "We should have enough in the squad to be able to win tomorrow."
