WITTON notched their first success in the Super League with an impressive 4-2 win over St Annes.
The Fylde coast visitors have won more honours than anyone in the division and again started the campaign as one of the title favourites.
But this made no impact on Witton who not only won b ut were within a handful of points of a remarkable clean sweep.
Graham Lang opened the score for the homesters with a resounding 21-10 win over Dave Worthington followed by Mark Green who finished with a flourish to dismiss Jim Kenny 21-13.
Meanwhile, Brian Hoole was involved in a close contest with merit champion and visitors captain Terry Wood who kept his team in the match with a 21-18 win for 2-1 at half time.
After the interval Aldo Staffa made light work of his game and romped home 21-9 before John Birkett was eased out 21-19 to leave the score 3-2.
With the score poised at 19-19 Roy Preston was the source of inspiration the home team needed as he nipped in to secure the vital game 21-19 and clinch a well-deserved victory.
Reigning champion Great Harwood recovered from the opening day setback when they overturned Lostock Hall by a comprehensive 5-1 margin.
Captain Stuart Gall produced the best return 21-1 but John Chatwin and Malcolm Wensley also won with points to spare 21-12.
Ever-reliable Ray Turner completed a stirring quartet of results when he cashed in 21-13.
Glyn Dodd had a tough encounter with home newcomer Trevor Ashcroft and had to pull out his best form to squeeze home 21-19.
Alexandra were on a high after taking maximum points in the opening fixture but Bamber Bridge opponents Brownedge put them under severe pressure.
Indeed, the first half was a disaster for the visitors who suffered heavy defeats to go into the interval 3-0 down.
At least they made a game of it in the second and in the end were pleased to notch a couple of points.
Brian Tomlinson returned a comfortable 21-13 before David Hoyle came from behind to win a thrilling contest by the narrowest of margins 21-20.
