RTA RESCUE: Striking firemen left the picket lines to help an RAF rescue team free a man who was trapped in his car following an accident at the junction of Bolton Street and Millett Street. Three cars were involved in the crash. After being released from his badly-damaged car, Mr Barry Allen of Bury Road, Edenfield, was taken to Bury General Hospital suffering from serious chest, leg and arm injuries.
SHAKERS SUPER WEEK: Bury completed a fine week when they defeated Plymouth 1-0 to earn their first league win after nine matches, and also secured a quarter final match with Nottingham Forest in the Football League Cup after beating West Brom by the same score.
ROYAL APPROVAL: The Duke of Edinburgh said he was "very interested" by a Bury Council project which started its own industrial development newspaper, Bury Enterprise. The newspapers was produced and printed in the town on paper made in the borough.
