with the Rev Kevin Logan, Vicar of Christ Church, Accrington

MY affair with David Beckham started with the free-kick that took us to the European finals last time around.

Before then I'd seen him occasionally. Afterwards, every TV appearance was a date. Purely platonic, of course, although some people now doubt his hero status.

And another thing. Asda bag packing! Why all the fuss? Bung it on the belt, wait till the till peeps, bung it in the bags. Women look on horrified at my abuse of their fine art.

And one final oddity. Why no passengers on the metro tram trundling through the Coronation Street titles four nights a week? Couldn't Granada splash out just once?

My point in all this? We are different.

We're gloriously poles apart in our thinking. Not one Saturday Message reader has probably ever been troubled by one of the above thoughts. We've got our own idiosyncrasies.

My second point is greater. God knows and loves our differences and goes out of his way to cater for them.

Take, for instance, Jesus' Easter Resurrection appearances. Why eleven of them? Simple. God knew that one wouldn't be enough for all the different characters involved.

For Mary Magdalene, Jesus had to do little more than stand, smile and murmur her first name.

God even catered for the sceptics, appearing to 500 in one go. What an incredibly kind and gracious God, providing just what each of us needs.

Why not give him a try?
