IAN Moore is challenging Burnley to remain unbeaten for the rest of the season to drive the black clouds away from Turf Moor.

The Clarets have five more games, starting with today's tricky trip to Cardiff, to see off the spectre of relegation.

Manager Stan Ternent has already targeted six more points to haul his side to the threshold of First Division safety.

And Moore knows the best way of achieving that total is by stringing together an unbeaten run between now and May 9.

The Clarets striker said: "We have to keep trying to get points in every game between now and the end of the season, so it's vitally important we go to Cardiff and not lose.

"All the talk is that 52 or 53 points will be enough.

"No-one knows at the moment, but as long as we keep picking points up and don't lose, we should be okay."

Moore is itching to return to the goal trail at Ninian Park today after scoring just once in his last nine games.

That memorable strike was a last minute header at Bradford that earned Burnley a crucial victory in the second of a three-match unbeaten run away from home.

In contrast, Burnley have not won any of their last four games at home - a worrying statistic ahead of two Turf Moor showdowns against already relegated Wimbledon and fellow strugglers Derby.

And Moore doesn't mind admitting to already having one eye fixed on next week's blockbusting double-bill.

The £1m ace, who remains just two goals short of his seasonal target of 15, said: "For some reason we look a lot better away from home at the moment.

"I can't put my finger on why it's just not happening for us at home, but we have to play Wimbledon and Derby next week and if we don't sort this home form out we are going to be in trouble.

"They are still the two most important games for me."

Meanwhile, relegation rivals Walsall are today reeling following the sacking of manager Colin Lee.

Chairman Jeff Bosner has dramatically terminated the contract of Lee, who has been in talks to take over the vacant manager's job at Plymouth.

The Saddlers have placed Paul Merson and Simon Osborn in temporary charge for today's daunting game away to league leaders Norwich.

And the caretakers have a total of just four games to keep Walsall out of the drop zone, with games to come against Sheffield United (home), Crystal Palace (away) and Rotherham (home).
