ELDERLY people in Pendle who are struggling to pay their council tax may be entitled to benefits they are not claiming.
Age Concern is hoping to help pensioners missing out on this and other unclaimed benefits during the charity's annual Your Rights Week this week.
Government figures show that some £770 million in council tax benefits remains unclaimed every year and that 1.7million pensioners are missing out.
Linda Salazar, the charity's information and advice manager in Lancashire, said: "Council tax benefit and pension credit are just two of the many benefits available to older people in the Pendle are to help increase their income and save on bills - but only if people claim what is rightfully theirs.
"In Pendle we have helped many older people claim benefits, worth more than £175,000, in the past year."
Free booklets about how to claim are available at Age Concern's office in Scotland Road, Nelson.
