THERE was a crumb of comfort for Clarets manager Stan Ternent from Cardiff City boss Lennie Lawrence after his side's 2-0 success over Burnley at Ninian Park.
"I think they will stay up - just!" was Lawrence's view on Burnley's plight at the foot of the first division table.
"I hope that they stay up because I am big mates with both Stan and Sam Ellis, so I would like to see them survive.
"I do think that they have got what it takes to win their home games and that should be enough for them, but it will be close."
Lawrence was basking in the glory of an inspired substitution at Ninian Park - Andy Campbell's late arrival on the pitch proving decisive in a game that had seemed destined for a draw.
"Sometimes you make substitutions and they have no effect, but other times it can turn a game - thankfully it did on this occasion," said Lawrence.
"Andy really popped up in the right places at the right times for us and he has done a good job.
"I am pleased for him because he works so hard in training and he is so patient when it comes to getting his chance.
"But even better is that when he has been given his chance he has made sure that he has shown us exactly what he is capable of."
Campbell's impact was to win a penalty inside two minutes of his arrival and then score the second goal and still have only been on the field for four minutes.
"I felt the second goal was one of the best we have scored all season," enthused Lawrence.
"It was a classic piece of counter-attacking, we moved the ball at speed and Andy produced an absolutely excellent finish."
