ON receiving my water bill from United Utilities I found a charge of £49 per year for surface water/highways drainage.
On phoning an overseas call centre I was told this change was for taking away rainwater in outside drains. I said I had no control over rainwater and did not own any highways. I was then told everyone pays this charge. It's on the bill.
So not only do you pay for the water which comes into your home and is taken away you also pay for rain. At £49 per year it adds up to a lot of profit for someone who then sells it back to you again.
