I WRITE with regard to "Police delay angers firefighters boss" (LET, April 15), and the comments of ADO Paul Ashworth in relation to the police delay in attending the fire site when a cannabis factory was found in Byrom Street, Blackburn..
Did his men do their job and put the fire out? Yes!
Did the fire service fulfil their duty to protect both life and property? Yes!
Did either he or his officers feel that there was any person responsible for either starting the fire or renovating the property to cultivate cannabis, whom any one of them could have detained by means of a citizens arrest under common law? No!
After his men had been on scene for two hours they must have felt that the property was "safe" to leave.
ADO Ashworth's comment that "the police said that there was no one available to come and didn't seem interested" is totally disgraceful.
