A WOMAN went into prison hooked on heroin and came out addicted to heroin substitute methadone, a court was told.
Lisa Matthews, 27, of Hindle Street, Darwen, was remanded on bail for the preparation of a pre-sentence report when she appeared before Blackburn magistrates and pleaded guilty to shoplifting.
The court heard that Matthews was seen leaving Sports Soccer in Blackburn town centre with the leg of a pair of track suit bottoms hanging from under her jacket.
When challenged by a member of staff she said she had nothing but when the member of staff pointed at the leg hanging down, she ran off.
Kevin Preston, defending, said Matthews had an extensive record which was in the main motivated by her drug addiction. "Instead of getting clear of drugs she was given a methadone prescription by the prison authorities and she is now addicted to that substance," said Mr Preston.
