POLICE chiefs in Rossendale are investigating the mysterious death of a 25-year-old man who died after suffering a head injury.
Ryan Greaves, of John Street, Whitworth, was taken to Rochdale Infirmary on Tuesday, April 13, after he woke up feeling ill.
He was transferred to Hope Hospital in Manchester before he suddenly died that afternoon.
Police said a post mortem examination revealed Mr Greaves died as a result of an injury to his head.
Detective Inspector Stuart Barlow said: "His injury is what has led us to conduct this inquiry to find out how this could have happened.
"We are keen to say that whatever injury he received, he must have received on either the Saturday, Sunday or Bank Holiday Monday.
"He had been with friends and loved ones throughout this time in Whitworth and Rochdale who say that he was with them.
"We would like to speak to anybody who spoke to him that weekend and anybody with information regarding how he would have banged his head.
"He's only 25 and it's been very traumatic for his family.
"It is absolutely tragic when any young person dies and it's unexplained. We have conducted a number of inquiries and are keeping an open mind as to what as happened."
An inquest is to be conducted by East Lancashire Coroner Richard Taylor at a later date.
Anybody with any information should contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or Pennine Police on 01282 424001.
