THE Clarets second team dropped out of the Pontin's Holiday League's Premier Division after being mugged by a late goal against neighbours Preston.
Ironically it was a striker Preston knew well who handed Burnley the lead.
Clarets trialist Fola Onibuje, who has featured with North End's reserves over the last two seasons, had too much strength for the Preston defence as he hit the opener. He could have increased the lead before North End equalised early in the second half when Aaron McConville beat two Clarets defenders to score.
Burnley restored their lead soon after when Marc Pugh created an opening for youth team top scorer Rhys Carpenter who finished smartly, but Clarets hopes of prolonging their top flight stay were dashed two minutes from time when Mark Jackson scored directly from a free kick.
