LEIGH Harriers athletes have been in outstanding form.
Peter Riley ran the second fastest time of the year in the Salford 10k, finishing second in a national ranking time of 29.36.
Scott Hughes ran 31.46 for eighth place and Sarah Caine ran a personal best of 48.25 in the women's race. Derek Howarth, in his preparations for the World Road Race championships in New Zealand, ran 44.06 to win the O/70s race.
Dionne and Danielle Allan took on the tough challenge of the junior Rivington Pike Fell race. Running in the U16s section, Dionne became the first Leigh Harrier to win the event. She clocked a time of 16.04 and was followed home in second place by her sister in 18.02.
Young Harriers also showed great potential in the Sale Harriers' Relays.
Shannon Johnson won the U9s event with over 200m to spare in a time of 6.17. Bethany Jones and Faye Horrocks were equally impressive in fifth and sixth places in 6.46 and 6.53 respectively. Grace Warburton was 18th in 7.16 and Helena Barnes 20th in 7.27 as leigh easily won the team event.
Leigh were again first across the line in the boys U9s with Richard Powell coming home a winner in 5.56.
The U13s girls relay team of Amy Riley (7.37), Vicky Green (7.35) and Hannah Warburton (7.12) finished a creditable third.
The U13s boys finished ninth. Isacc McCann clocked 7.02, Thomas Powell 7.37 and Chris Foulds 7.46.
The U11s girls team of Abigail Howarth (7.51), Joy Ozzell (8.39) and Sally Boardman (9.02) finished a creditable sixth. The boys U11s team of C.Adamson (7.41), Jack Ryan (8.57) and Isacc Southern (8.39) with 12th.
