SIXTY years since the courageous actions of East Lancs soldiers on D-Day a Blackburn brewer has commemorated their sacrifice.
Thwaites has launched 'Liberation Ale' to help raise the awareness of the diamond anniversary of the D-Day Landings.
Thwaites, the seventh largest brewery in Britain, said the Liberation Ale will assist the Royal British Legion and its 13 million members with 10p for every bottle sold going to the Legion. It is estimated that the donation could well reach £25,000.
Brian Jenkins, sales and marketing director at Thwaites, said: "When the Legion approached us about the possibility of producing a commemorative beer we were only too pleased to get involved.
"We were already well aware of the Legion's position as the UK's leading charity, and of the marvellous support offered to millions who have served and are currently serving in the Armed Forces and their dependants.
"But we also found that we had much in common, not least in terms of heritage and tradition.
"The partnership between us works exceptionally well and everyone connected with Thwaites Brewery is delighted to be playing a part in this historic anniversary year."
The beer was launched at the Stafford Hotel in Mayfair, London, which is owned by Thwaites in anticipation for the official anniversary of the D-Day landings on June 6.
Thwaites employs 700 at a brewery and a distribution centre in Blackburn.
