STUDENTS at one Prestwich school will take the lead in helping youngsters become model citizens, thanks to a grant of £10,000.
Pupils from Prestwich Community High School are to use the money they have received from Barclays New Futures to work on citizenship issues with primary school pupils.
The group of 14- to 16-year-olds will help develop drama workshops, and in time, act merely as supervisors as the primary students organise their own workshops.
Students will be actively involved in all aspects of the project, and the skills gained will be filtered down to the younger children in several different schools.
The workshops will be linked to different areas of the curriculum including drama, art, citizenship and English.
Mr Graham Newman, deputy head of the Heys Road school, said: "We want to integrate all the children in today's society, including those with special needs."
The project will culminate in a day of celebration, and parents of the younger children will be invited to take part.
Prestwich Community High School were presented with the money along with eight other schools in the north west.
