UNSWORTH Cricket Club get their Central Lancashire League campaign underway when Milnrow visit Pole Lane on Sunday.
There's a new look to the side this summer although popular South African professional Robbie MacQueen is still the paid man at the club.
This year he has brought to the club overseas amateur J.P. Hean, also from Natal, a left-hand opening bat and right-arm bowler.
Keeping up the Springbok connection is the vastly experienced Alan Badenhorst - former professional at Heywood - and Dion Taljard an allrounder from Cape Province.
West Indian Carl Campbell is also a newcomer as are two players well known on the local cricket scene, Barry Hamilton who has played with a number of clubs throughout the area including Walshaw, and former Bury CC man Jon Wiggans. Meanwhile STAND will be hoping for a more successful season this year, after landing former Radcliffe bowler Eddie Shah.
The Hamilton Road club are hoping that their near neighbours' loss wil be their gain as they get their season underway when they entertain Royton on Sunday.
Shah took 80 wickets for the Racecoursemen last season and was instrumental to their second-place finish.
He will be joined by the returning professional John Seedle.
Seedle, who has been playing Lancashire League cricket with Church, played for Stand previously and helped the club to fourth and fifth positions in the table with his crucial runs and wicket-taking capabilities.
Paul Wilkinson continues as skipper in the absence of Martin Hegg, who has commitments in New Zealand currently.
Spinner Mike Yewell has also been signed to bolster the bowling attack and provide a sprinkling of hope for the Stand faithful.
