ASPIRING model Ellie Guadagno is hoping to make waves in the world of water-skiing after battling her way back from a double amputation.
Ellie, of Warth Fold, Bury, is in training to compete for a place in the World Disabled Water-skiing Championships after losing both her lower legs six years ago. The 22-year-old had suffered severe tissue damage after an overdose of anti-depressants and painkillers, and doctors had no option but to amputate.
Ellie had been depressed by the death of her father, Ge Ge, but was encouraged to walk again with the help of her mum, Barbara, and sister, Daniella.
In May last year, Ellie read an article about disabled water-skiing and decided to try the sport for herself. And now in regular training at Whitworth Waterski and Recreation Centre, which provides specialist facilities, Ellie is hoping to join the British squad. She aims to compete in the world championships next year.
Ellie said: "Eighteen months ago I never thought I'd be in this position. I'm looking for sponsorship to pay for some of the stuff because there is a lot of equipment and some of it is quite expensive."
Ellie is also keeping busy with acting classes and recently joined a modelling agency.
