BUDDING artists are invited to submit work to a major exhibition in Preston later this year.
Preston artist George Melling, 43, who created a masterpiece of playwright Noel Coward for a London theatre, will chair the judging panel at the event at Preston Minster.
It is hoped the inaugural exhibition in July will become an annual event in a bid to showcase the region's talent.
It comes after the minster unveiled a mural based on peace and resurrection, called The Garden.
The 10ftx6ft masterpiece, by Mr Melling, depicts Christ's tomb, images of the Lamb of God, an olive tree and a waterfall symbolising baptism.
Mr Melling said: "I was absolutely delighted to be invited to paint a mural in the country's new Minster and the positive reaction from the congregation has been particularly gratifying."
But this is not the only mural in town.
Last Saturday a team of young people created a colourful mural showing their vision for the future of the Grange estate in Preston.
Another mural depicting a night and day scene will be unveiled on Friday, April 30, at the Penwortham Environmental Education Centre, as part of a relaunch event which marks the centre's new focus on environmental education for all.
Application forms for submissions to the minster exhibition can be obtained from the Parish office, St John's Minster, Church Street, Preston, PR1 3BT.
