A SPECIAL "world cup" was held in Whitefield to help foster understanding between locals and asylum seekers.
The tournament, held at Philips High School, was run through the Bobby Charlton Soccer Schools and Soccer Theme Park.
Around 150 children from asylum-seeking families live in the borough of Bury, from 42 different nationalities and speaking one of 17 different languages.
This was the second competition in recent weeks, following the first at Broad Oak High School in Bury which was attended by the Mayor of Bury, Coun Wilf Davison.
Bury Council's asylum seekers team, schools curriculum and language access service and sports development unit helped set up the scheme, which is supported by the neighbourhood street wardens team.
