A PENSIONER suffered an angina attack after he was mowed down by a cyclist as he walked to the shops.
Robert Mitchell, 64, was making his way to Netto on Lancaster Road, Morecambe, when the thug zoomed along the pavement and slammed into him.
Mr Mitchell, who is blind in one eye and needs crutches to walk, lay on the pavement stunned and in pain as the youth hurled obscenities at him and called him names.
The pensioner reached out and attempted to stop the youth by chucking one of his walking aids at him - but marginally missed hitting his own dog Pepsi on the head.
Passers-by helped the Charles Street pensioner to his feet and he made his way to the supermarket with his terrier - determined to carry on.
But when he got home after the scare last Friday at 4pm he was in pain and the doctor had to be called, says Dorothy, his wife of 15 years.
"It was a deliberate and violent attack on a man who is a diabetic, walks with crutches, has a heart con-dition and has had two hip rep-lacements," she told the Citizen.
"The youngster shouted at him telling him to get off the pave-ment. He tried to grab hold of the bike and wanted to stop the cyclist because what he had done was wrong, but he had to let go because he could feel his angina setting off.
"There was absolutely no reason for the attack and it is sad in this day when you can't go shopping in broad daylight safely."
She adds: "We want this man caught because we think he will do it again if he thinks he has got away with it."
The offender is described as being aged 18 to 20, five-feet-seven inches tall and clean shaven. He was wearing a black hooded anorak with red stripes down the sleeves.
The bike, which was dark blue, is believed to be new.
Anyone with information is urged to call Lancaster Police on 01524-63333 or the Crimestoppers hotline on 0800-555111.
