AN error strewn game brought the curtain down on the season before the biggest crowd of the campaign.
Both sides were guilty of errors but Hoppers were the main culprits failing to exploit promising situations with dropped passes or wrong options.
Fylde were 6-0 ahead with two penalties by Mike Scott as they capitalised on a massive penalty count against the home side.
An opportunist try by Paul Bailey, converted by Sengili Tuihalamaka, gave Hoppers some hope but a try by Laurence Condon gave Fylde an 11-7 lead at half time.
Further penalties and a conversion by Scott put the visitors further ahead.
Before the end Hoppers put some pressure on Fylde and a defiant try by Alex Youngman completed the scoring.
The defeat ends a disastrous season for Hoppers and, while they have been beset by injuries to key players, there is much work to do in the close season.
There is a new management format taking place at the club, however, and the needs of the senior rugby side must be the priority.
There is better news for the club's other sides as the third, fourth and fifth teams have all won promotion in their respective Fairclough Homes leagues.
A sixth team has also been formed which is unusual at a time when most clubs are reducing the number of teams.
Final score: Grasshoppers 22 Fylde 28
