TWENTY-ONE teams of primary school aged children strutted their stuff at Lancaster City's Giant Axe ground over the Easter holidays, competing in the annual William Smith Football Festival.
Organised by Lancaster City Council's leisure services division together with Lancaster City FC, the festival was open to all boys and girls in the district and saw Lancaster Road A, Scotforth A, St Peter's, Bolton-le-Sands, Willow Lane, St Joseph's A, Bowerham and St Patrick's make it through to the last eight.
Holders St Peter's and Lancaster Road A edged past Scotforth A and Bolton-le-sands on penalties while the other games ended in narrow 1-0 wins for Willow Lane and St Joseph's A.
But St Peter's hopes of a hat-trick of victories in the competition were ended when they were beaten on penalties by St Joseph's A in the semi-final, with Lancaster Road A beating Willow Lane 1-0 in the other semi.
The final saw St Joseph's A having all the pressure and most of the chances but Lancaster Road A defending well and hitting their opponents on the counter attack to score the only goal in another 1-0 victory.
During the day, James Roberts from Scotforth A won the penalty competition and Daniel Woods from St Joseph's was named as player of the day.
All competitors received a medal for taking part.
