IF Burnley are going to get out of the mire sooner rather than later then they are going to have to start showing more desire.
I was at Tuesday night's game against Wimbledon and, while the win was welcome, the lack of effort in certain areas was hugely disappointing.
You would think that the position we're in, everybody would be giving 120 per cent.
But, to me, some of them are just going through the motions, and that's not going to be good enough in this relegations dogfight.
A few years a go we would have steam-rolled a side like Wimbledon.
Already doomed and with, in the main, a bunch of teenagers to select from, the Dons were hardly tough opposition. But the sense of relief that we were able to walk away with three points after 90 minutes was worryingly massive.
If the shot Wimbledon had in the first half hadn't hit the post then I just shudder to think what the outcome would have been.
Which leads me to be concerned about the attitude of a lot of the players. They aren't showing enough desire or enough passion considering that Burnley Football Club's survival is at stake and it all rests on them.
My guess is that we still need another three points to be sure of safety and we've got the biggest chance we'll get of earning them when we play Derby County at Turf Moor tomorrow.
But it's going to take a lot of hard work.
The Rams had a massive win against Preston last weekend so they are going to come here full of confidence.
They are fighting tooth and nail to stay in the First Division and it's vital that Burnley match, if not better, their attitude and work ethic.
They must be up for it.
I've been saying all season that we had the nucleus of a decent squad but in recent games against Norwich, Watford and Wimbledon, things haven't augured well for the future.
The fact that the money isn't there to bring people in is a major concern, but hopefully if we can survive then perhaps next season will be different.
It will be possible to get the wage bill down in the summer and work from there.
There's going to be a need for major regrouping and reorganisation next year. Stan Ternent will need to wheel and deal to find a squad of players with only a tight budget at his disposal.
But we've got to make sure that squad will be part of a First Division team so it's crucial that we make the most of home advantage tomorrow.
The atmosphere was very tense ahead of Tuesday night's game. There was a lot of apprehension.
A win is just what the Clarets need to lighten the mood and help the supporters look forward to next season.
