SMOKE alarms saved the life of a Haslingden man who was sleeping as a severe fire swept through his home.
The man, an asthmatic and in his forties, needed hospital treatment for smoke inhalation after escaping the blaze which destroyed the downstairs rooms of the home in South View.
The man was on his own when the fire began at 9.50am yesterday.
It is believed an electrical fault caused the blaze underneath the stairs of the home.
Two smoke alarms activated and woke the man who braved the fire to escape.
His wife was at the scene yesterday but was too upset to comment. She was comforted by neighbours.
