LABOUR councillors today claimed Accrington Town Centre Regeneration Board is failing the town.
And they have said it should be helping all of Hyndburn's town centres - not just Accrington.
But Tories at Hyndburn Council hit back, saying they were still paying for mistakes made while Labour was in power - but they admitted more needed to be done to regenerate town centres.
Labour Coun David Myles said: "The board does not seem to be working. Look at the number of empty shops and the problems there have been with paving round the Market Hall.
"And it seems to have been forgotten that we have more than one town centre in Hyndburn."
Labour group leader Coun Jean Battle added: "Accrington Broadway area is a mess. There's lots of empty shops."
But Hyndburn Council leader and regeneration board chairman Coun Peter Britcliffe commented: "These problems have come after years of neglect from Labour. Its councillors have failed to put forward plans."
