A MIDWEEK win for Bishop Auckland stripped this game of any real significance and an air of anti-climax hung over proceedings in an error-strewn contest.
Magpies' skipper Billy McCartney deservedly received the Player of the Year award after the match, but his luck was right out in this game and he contributed to both the visitors' goals.
He was undone by an awkward bounce of the ball and gave it way to Town striker Rodney Rowe, who calmly advanced unchallenged to steer his shot past keeper Lee Bracey on eight minutes.
Chorley equalised soon afterwards when Ossett keeper Michael Clark spilled Neil Smith's header and Andy Mason was on hand to tap the ball into the net.
The Magpies then had the better of a sterile first half but fell behind again three minutes after the restart. James Walshaw rose above the defence to meet a free-kick and Bracey could only parry his header, which rebounded into the net off the luckless McCartney.
Mason went close but his 30-yard chip cannoned off the upright.
