A LEIGH drama group rewrite the history books with their first all-woman production.

And the audience at St Joseph's Players' latest production are reminded to take along the tissues.

One of the oldest societies in the world, the Players are performing "Steel Magnolias" by Robert Harling until Saturday.

Set in Louisiana this is the laugh and cry story of strong friendship and the effects of marriage, birth and death on six women over a two year period.

The magnolias of the title are played by Donna Wood, Katherine Roberts, Joanna Yates and Joan Doorey. Newcomer Kelly Kitchen is Annelle and Clare Nash takes the part of tragic heroine, Shelby.

The play, curtain up 7.30pm, is produced and directed by Doreen Johnson.

Tickets, £5 including programme, are on sale at Boardmans Outfitters, Bradshawgate, or pay at the door. Wine and cheese is available on Tuesday and Saturday.
