HYNDBURN residents are to find TV fame promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Britain on the Move is a national Government-backed campaign which launches on Thursday with two programmes on ITV1. Both programmes will look at health and fitness and promote the idea that making minor lifestyle changes, such as walking to school or taking the stairs rather than the lift, can have a big impact on improving health.
The programme will feature schemes from the North West including interviews with those involved in Hyndburn's Stepping Out Walking Project, which began in October 2002 and has established a programme of short walks throughout Hyndburn.
Helen Jamieson, Healthy Hearts project officer, said: "We knew they were looking for case studies for the programme, so jumped at the chance.
"They filmed at Bury Meadows in Oswaldtwistle when we were doing a walk with 21 Asian women.
"Our aim is to increase awareness, knowledge and opportunities for individuals to lead a healthier lifestyle. This involves promoting physical activity, healthy eating as well as reducing overweight and obesity, which costs the public purse more than £1 billion every year.
"We want to get Britain on the move - walking its way to health."
The first programme will air at 7.30pm followed by a debate at 11pm about the factors involved in making Britain a healthier nation.
