STUDENTS at Darwen Vale High School are putting months of practising lines and songs to the test this week during the first full-length musical to be produced at the school for many years.
The Wiz, based on The Wizard of Oz, is being directed by the newly-appointed head of drama, Leona Monks, and the music is co-ordinated by Vicky Povey and head of music Lois Talbot, who have both been at the school 18 months.
Many other staff have been involved, in particular Toni Wilson and Kay Ramsey who have painted the backdrop and stage flats.
Headteacher Lynn Dunning said: "Most credit goes to the dedication of the pupils, the cast members and those who work behind the scenes. They have been totally committed to the project since last November when the initial auditions took place."
The production began last night and was due to continue tonight and tomorrow, at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the school.
