A BLACKBURN hospital worker is to be ordained as a minister with the Corinthian Church and Healing Association, a Christian group that believes spiritual energy can be used to heal people.

Margaret Almond-Birtwistle, a health promotions worker at Queen's Park Hospital, who has worked in the NHS for 30 years, sees her church-based work as a complementary therapy to mainstream health practice.

Her ordination as a Corinthian minister is at Blackburn's Friends' Meeting House on Sunday, May 2, at 4pm. It will be the first of its kind in the area.

Margaret said: "Channelling energy helps the body to heal itself and, given energy, most of us can heal ourselves. A simple example is when a child hurts their knee, the parent rubs it better. Similarly, energy can be used to heal people who are depressed or lethargic."

Margaret lives in Preston and has been involved with various professional healers' associations. She said there are strict codes of conduct governing such work, adding: "The Government feels very strongly that healing is a credible and safe complementary therapy."
