MR Sabir Esa (LET, April 21) states that "Labour promised much but has delivered very little."

If Mr Esa actually examines the record of the Labour Government his statement is obviously flawed.

We currently have the lowest unemployment since 1975, 1.7 million more people are now in work as compared to 1979.

Mortgage rates are at their lowest for 35 years. We have low inflation and a stable economy.

The minimum wage has been introduced. Crime has reduced by 25 per cent and there are record numbers of police officers.

There is record investment in our health services with 50,000 more NHS nurses and 10,000 more NHS doctors.

There are 25,000 more teachers and class sizes have been reduced to under 30 for five, six and seven year-olds.

Child benefit has increased by record amounts whilst tax credits are helping low waged families.

Pensioners have benefited from above inflation increases, the minimum income guarantee, the extra winter payments, free TV licences and the new pension credit.

OK, things are not perfect (and never will be) and mistakes such as WMD in Iraq have been made -- but the Tory opposition supported the war and if the Lib-Dems had been in charge then Saddam Hussain would still be in power!

Is Mr Esa really more concerned about events in Iraq than with events in his own country?
