RESIDENTS in Brierfield are being invited to get 'web wise' and discover new interests at the town's first cyber cafe.
People of all ages from the humblest beginner to more advanced computer whizz-kids are welcome at the cafe at the corner of Colne Road and Halifax Road.
Brierfield Action in the Community set up the facility including five internet connections which is open seven days a week.
The project, funded by Brierfield Town Council, Pendle Partnerships and Pendle Council, enables people to learn about computers by using the free facilities.
The venue is just one of 19 Pendle Community Link IT centres being developed over the next three years by Northern Technologies and Pendle Community Network with funding from Pendle Partnership.
Organisers aim to create a relaxed atmosphere for people to surf the internet, search for information, use e-mail, gain IT skills and play games.
The cafe also provides a social centre and focal point for the community, aiming to create a cafe to be used by all ages, including those in employment, Asian women, and any young people who might be tempted to drift into anti-social behaviour.
It has staff support for people using the IT facilities, basic refreshments and an area for young children to play safely.
