LEIGH Harriers' super veteran, Derek Howarth, has won his second World Masters Individual medal.
Running in the World Veteran's Road race championships in Auckland, New Zealand, 73-years-old Derek ran an outstanding 10k race. he clocked his fatest time for two years - 43.49 - to win a silver medal.
Derek was also the fastest runner on the British team which won the gold team award.
In the O/70s cross country relays Derek was again the fastest with a time 18.51, running the anchor leg to bring the British team home in silver medal place.
In the half marathon he clocked a creditable 1-40.41, finishing just outside the medals in fifth place. But the Gb team again took silver with Derek the fastest runner.
John Taylor, in his first road race championship, ran a creditable 41.56 in the O/45 race, finishing 13th.
Fourteen-years-old Dionne Allen continued her quest to become the English Junior Fell Race champion.
In her second event of the season, Dionne won the West Nab fell race in Meltham, Huddersfield. She showed the two skills of fell running; good climbing ability and the ability to descend rapidly and clocked 14.56. She is now second place overall in the junior championships.
Her sister Danielle also ran well, finishing third in 16.03 to put herself in the top five overall.
