PARISH councillors are unhappy that Burnley Borough Council is proposing to close the public toilets in East Street.

The toilets are well cared for, the environment committee has planted an alpine garden and they are used by walkers, people on the canal and visitors to the area. The clerk is to invite Mike Birdsall, the borough council's property services manager to the next parish council meeting on May 11 at the village school hall.

THE annual town meeting of Padiham Council will be held on Tuesday, May 4 at 7pm. During the meeting Coun Mark Jinkinson, mayor elect, will be installed as the town's third mayor since the re-formation of Padiham's Council in 2002.

Local people can watch from the public gallery in the council chamber.

HAPTON village is to benefit from initiatives to restrict the speed of traffic in the area. A mini roundabout is proposed for the junction of the A679 with Manchester Road. This will stop traffic building up on Manchester Road while waiting to access the A679. The school sign near the railway bridge will be renewed and new central markings will appear on the bridge.

THE Mayor of Padiham, Coun Bob Clark, has asked if there is any funding available for hanging baskets from Burnley Borough Council. Borough councillor John Harbour will try to secure some.

COUNCILLOR John Kenyon has suggested that the allotments around the Hargrove area and by the Alma Inn be taken over by Padiham Council. There was unanimous agreement to this plan.

LANDON'S newsagents have moved into their new premises in Manchester Road where they have combined two shops into one.
