THE first female High Sheriff of Lancashire was sworn in at a ceremony at County Hall. Mrs Judith Duckworth, of Bleasdale Tower near Garstang, was the first woman to have held the post since it began in the tenth century.
Mrs Duckworth said she was honoured to take over the post, adding: "It is my intention to preserve the many traditions and responsibilities of the office which have evolved over hundreds of years."
