BURNLEY are hoping to burst through the crucial 8,500 season ticket sales barrier tomorrow.

And if they achieve this target, it could pave the way for a more financially secure campaign next season.

The club's discount period for season tickets ends at 6pm tomorrow, with 5,000 Clarets fans having already taken advantage, meaning tickets are being sold at a rate of over 100 an hour.

Burnley had to contend with a shortfall of 2,500 last season as only 8,500 were sold compared to 11,000 for the previous campaign, leading to the threat of administration.

The budget for next term has been re-set with the sale of 8,500 season tickets in mind, but an increase in sales would provide a timely cash boost to see the club through the summer and well into next season, by which time at least half a dozen players contracts will have been re-aligned or even terminated in the close season.

Chief executive Dave Edmundson said: "I'm really hoping that, by tomorrow, we can exceed the 8,500 season tickets we have budgeted for.

"If we have done that in the discount period it means we really are going to be well above our budget of numbers for season tikcets."

Back to back wins over Wimbledon and Derby County have created more interest among supporters.

"It's been magnificent and I think it's an indication of where the club can get to now,"Edmundson added.

"There's been a big inflation on the people coming and buying season tickets.

"The ticket office staff have been working really hard and I've really got to thank all the people who have been queuing up for season tickets for the their patience."

The Burnley ticket office is open until 6pm tonight and tomorrow night.
