SOAP stars and sports personalties will be doing battle on the soccer pitch on Sunday to raise money for a famous cancer centre.

Emlyn Hughes' All Stars Team will be testing their football skills and aiming to secure a win against Culcheth's Daten FC at leigh's Hilton Park.

Personalities from Hollyoaks, Brookside and Emmerdale, will join among others Dave Johnson (ex-Liverpool, Everton & England) and Andy Gregory (ex-Wigan & Great Britain) along with Mike McLean (Richard & Judy).

The charity match, due to kick off at noon, is just part of a fun-packed day which also includes a "battle of the sexes" when boys and girls randomly picked from the crowd can take part in a special half time challenge.

After the main match there will be a disco in the Mick Martyn Bar where all the celebrities will be available to sign autographs.

Trevor Farrington: Chairman of Daten said: "We wanted to build on the success of last year's event in offering a fun-packed day for all the family while raising as much funds as possible for such a worthy charity."

Daten will make a donation to the Clatterbridge Cancer Appeal in memory of one of their past players Paul Robinson, who was well known as Robbo and is sadly missed throughout his home town of Culcheth.

Tickets can be purchased at the ground on the day or in advance from Leigh Rugby Club and Culcheth Sports Club. The cost is £5 per adult and £3 per junior (under 12). Match programmes will also be available on the day at a cost of 50p.
