THE uncertainty surrounding Leigh RMI's relegation has deepened this week with news that another troubled Conference club could come to their rescue.
A week after the division's governing body confirmed that Margate have until May 31 to prove that their facilities are up to Conference standard, Telford United now face a race against time themselves.
The Bucks are looking for a new investor after announcing debts of up to £100,000. And should any one of their creditors call in the payments before that happens, the club could go under - losing its league status into the bargain.
If such an eventuality were to occur, RMI could avoid the drop to the Conference North, where they expect to play next season after finishing second bottom.
But they are unlikely to find out in any case until May 31, when the divisions' chiefs meet to assess the turbulent situations surrounding Telford and Margate.
Third-bottom side Farnborough Town are already off the hook after neither of the two leading clubs in the Unibond Premier League had sufficient facilities for promotion.
Meanwhile, Leigh Chairman William Taylor has thanked the fans for their loyal support after defeat at Barnet ended their fourth season in non-league's top flight.
"I saw a lot of unhappy people at the game and I know it means a lot to our loyal supporters", said Taylor.
"But we are a club of fighters and we'll bounce back", he added. "I just want to say a big thank you to all of the fans who have made the effort to follow us everywhere this season because everyone at the club appreciates
it."
