THE sun shone down on Leigh RU Hawks as they rounded off a successful season with a dynamic display of running rugby against league rivals Manchester, winning 35-12.

Both backs and forwards dominated play, in particular Ross Fletcher at stand-off and the back row of Stu Browning Tavita and Pia Liku.

Leon Bellis should have opened his try account when he intercepted a Manchester pass and darted for the corner only to be held up just short of the line. However Liku was at hand to receive the offload and score under the sticks for a converted try.

Leigh gave the large crowd a wonderful try from Magnall worked from their own 22. The Hawks continued the onslaught - Krause crashed his way into the corner before Browning took a quick tap-penalty to power his way under the sticks.

All three tries were converted by the ever reliable Greenwood.

Manchester restored a little pride with a scrappy converted try midway through the second half, before the Liku brothers teamed up for a try in the last minute to complete the scoring.

Wilmslow 5 Tofts 19

Leigh Tofts rounded off their first league season in glorious style, beating a strengthened Wilmslow side.

Leigh were behind after only five minutes. Wave after wave of Wilmslow attacks were repelled. Leigh were rarely in the opposition half, but when they were, they made it count.

Fryer crossed under the posts after an excellent break from stand off Yates and Lawrinson dived over in the right hand corner after a chip and chase from scrum half Isherwood.

When the opportunity arose, Tofts Player of the Season, Carl Lawrinson cut open the home defencefor the third try. Porteous added two conversions.

Leigh U15s were chosen as one of three Lancashire teams to play against two Cheshire sides in a round robin tournament at West Park on Sunday.

Leigh U15s 10 Winnington Park 0

Leigh dominated the match with good teamwork and tackling. Good support play enabled Hargreaves to score first followed by a terrific solo effort by Parrott.

Leigh U15s 12 Manchester 5

Lancashire Cup winners Manchester scored first as Leigh were put under pressure in the first half, however Parrott struck early in the second half and Knapman backed up a break by Woods to dive over. Pendlebury converted.

Leigh U15s 12 Orrell 0

Against the Lancashire Plate winners Cox scored early side-stepping under the posts, Rushworth converting. Centre Baker then strolled over to seal the win.

Leigh U15s 7 Altrincham Kersal 7

Nothing could separate the two teams with 100% records in a thrilling match. Good support play by Andrews to score near the posts with Pendlebury converting to give Leigh a 7-0 half-time lead.

JUNIOR RESULTS

Leigh U10s played in the Hoylake Sevens Tournament on Sunday.

Leigh Hawks missed a semi-final spot due to the bye game result. They beat Hoylake 20-5 with tries from James Wilkinson 3 and Thomas Lloyd and then went on to lose to Waterloo 5-20.Thomas Lloyd scored the only try.

Leigh Eagles, which was an inexperienced team played with sheer passion and guts against some very good opposition led well by O'Neill, Prady and Yarwood. Against Douglas they lost by 5-10 with some good defence from Sarah Thorpe and Williams. Leigh's try scorer was Jonathan Tipper.

In the second game against Ormskirk they lost by 0-20 with good displays from King, Tipper and Paine. In the final game against Liverpool Collegiate the Eagles put on their best performance by far but they couldn't get that all important second try and despite superb spirit by all they lost by 5-10. Leigh's try came from Patrick Paine.

Leigh U9s also played in the Hoylake tournament. In their first game Leigh finished worthy winners by 25-0 with tries from Matty Wilkinson 3 and Deacon Monks 2.

In the second game Leigh found a committed Waterloo side difficult to break down. Despite late pressure Leigh could not break through the tight Waterloo defence. All was not lost though as the 0-0 draw was enough to see Leigh progress to the final.

Leigh took on a very good Welsh team, Ruthin who had been runaway winners of their group. The impressive Deacon Monks dived over the line for a 5-0 win. Ruthin levelled just before the end but the winning score came from Matty Wilkinson.
