GOLBORNE town centre is becoming cleaner, greener and healthier.
Last week eight trees were planted adding more life and colour to the town centre.
The Greener Golborne Group worked with Wigan Council to place five maple and three cherry trees as part of the group's ongoing 'quality street' scheme. GGG has been working hard making Golborne a nicer and greener place to live.
A group spokesman said he hoped the trees would help create a better looking Golborne and is a result of part of a substantial grant given by the New Opportunities Fund.
GGG, the council and local traders are drawing up further transformation plans which include transplanting mature oak trees in Peter Kane Square to commemorate the miners killed in the Golborne pit tragedy which happened 25 years ago.
The GGG, which has helped clean-up pathways around the village, also aims to conserve mature trees within the area, and wants people to suggest specimens worthy of preservation orders.
