BLIND and partially sighted people in Preston will be able to receive expert advice about housing options after the launch of a new service.
The Your Choice North West initiative, part of the Action for Blind People charity, in Lancaster Road, Preston, is hoping to offer practical support, advice and assistance.
Experts heard at the launch of the new housing service last Thursday that many blind and partially sighted people, whether they lost it overnight or gradually over time, face a move to institutionalised housing without hearing the alternative options.
Stuart Clayton, manager for Your Choice North West, said because people are not fully aware of all the options open to them they just settle for what they believe is one offer.
He said: "This service will help to combat this problem and we will be able to help people, who may move into a new home, to accustom themselves and find their way around not only in the home but around their community, for example, where their nearest post office is.
He added: "Moving home is extremely stressful if you're fully sighted, and for people who are blind or partially sighted it can be even more so."
