WOMEN have just two weeks left to sign up for Cancer Research UK's local Race for Life.
A staggering 850 women have already secured a place in 5km event at Preston Sports Arena, Tom Benson Way, Cottam, on Sunday, May 23, supported by the Citizen.
They will be walking or running to raise funds to help cure cancer faster. And it's not too late to join them.
Debbie Lawler, 47, is one of those signed up to enter the race along with step-daughter, Natasha, 12.
The mother-of-five will be running in memory of her late friend, Jean Smith, 42, who died from bone cancer two weeks ago.
For Natasha, her grandmother Margaret Robertson, 74, from Blackpool, who has cancer, will be in her mind on the day.
Debbie, who works at IS Integration, Preston Technology Centre, Strand Road, Preston, said: "I applied too late last year to take part but after having personal involvement with cancer, this year I registered early.
"When I first applied Jean was still alive, but when she died I decided not to send flowers to the funeral but to raise money doing the run instead."
Debbie and Natasha, from Kirkham, are aiming to raise £200 between them.
To enter the Race for Life log onto www.raceforlife.org or call 08705 134 314. Application forms are also available from the Citizen office at 3 Winckley Court, Chapel Street, Preston.
