BOY RACERS who anger locals with loud music and reckless driving are be tackled by police.

Youngsters driving dangerously will bear the brunt of a special operation under new anti-social behaviour laws.

Bobbies vow they will target areas where they know the boy racers gather - and will adopt a hard stance on any drivers reported.

"The playing of loud music from car windows and the performing of hand brake turns are examples of acts which cause annoyance," says PC Andy Stuttard, a road-policing officer at Morecambe, who is organising the scheme.

Where a vehicle is being used to cause distress the driver will be issued with a warning.

If there is a further incident after a warning has been given, police have the power to seize the vehicle.

PC Stuttard, says the scheme, codenamed Scunthorpe, will deal 'effectively' with boy racers who have a clear neglect for traffic legislation, other road users and local residents."
