VISITORS to Wray this weekend could be forgiven for thinking they have stumbled upon an enchanted land where scarecrows come to life.
A giant scarecrow torchlight procession will weave through the village on Friday night as one of the highlights of the annual scarecrow festival. The festivities also feature a samba band, hog roast, and bonfire with prizes for the best scarecrows.
The event was started by Dave Hartnup, whose daughter Emma is helping to keep the family involvement going. She has organised an Alice in Wonderland display in the commemorative flood gardens with contributions from several local schools, including Beaumont College in Lancaster.
Another highlight comes from youngsters at Wray Endowed School, who have been in training to show off their traditional maypole dancing skills at the Wray fair day which takes place on Bank Holiday Monday, May 3.
There will also be a birds of prey demonstration, duck herder, dog agility, magic shows, Punch and Judy, fairground, stalls and tea tent as the event raises money for local causes including the village school and church.
