EVERYONE is welcome in Lancaster - a city of 125 nationalities and a rich diversity of cultures.
That's the message from city MP Hilton Dawson as he invites the community to celebrate what it is that makes Lancaster such a great place to live.
He is hosting a reception at Lancaster Town Hall on Thursday, May 13, from 6.30pm to 9.30pm and says: "Whoever you are, however long you've lived here, whatever your age, gender, sexuality or ability, everyone is welcome to an evening to celebrate the decent people of Lancaster."
Hilton says people can go along to the Town Hall to stay for the whole evening or just 'pop in' to see an eclectic and impromptu mix of music, food, displays, personal witness, good fun and friendship.
"The only politics on display will be democratic politics that recognises and respects all the people of our community," he goes on.
"Already we have been approached by a women's singing group, Chinese musicians and a Chinese/Irish folk group, and we are actively searching for poets, theatre groups, orators, raconteurs, musicians, speakers - anyone who wants to display their support for diversity.
"It's vital that we cherish all our communities, the whole glorious mixture of our life across Lancaster District right now."
Anyone who wishes to make a contribution to the diversity party is asked to contact the MP via his special 'diversity e-mail' on mullettl@parliament.uk or by calling 01524-380057.
