RECYCLING is an admirable aim and one that can hardly be disagreed with. However, neighbouring authorities are managing to do this while still maintaining a weekly collection of the grey bin.
Bury, as usual, has fudged the issue of recycling. By insisting on reducing the collection of the grey bin to once a fortnight, they have fostered in most people a negative attitude towards recycling. There is also far more rubbish blowing about the streets as a result of over-flowing bins and poorly designed black boxes.
Hectoring people and calling them names, as councillors have done in recent letters to this page, is both arrogant and unedifying. Councillors need to be reminded that they are the elected servants of the community, and they should listen to their constituents.
